ABOUT
Part NGO, part start-up, part research institute, Deep Time Research is the response of an enthusiastic group of geoscientists who are committed to doing great science, educating the next generation, and building a better environment for research.
Today, researchers everywhere face increasingly complex institutional bureaucracy, limited support for young talent, and countless obstacles that can stand between good ideas and good science. But does research have to happen this way? We believe that part of the future of research—and its intersection with higher education, including doctoral projects—could lie in small, agile, independent and genuinely alive organizations: entities that can move quickly, foster collaboration, support young researchers, and remain lean enough to put their resources where they matter most: into science.
Deep Time Research was born in Bucharest in August 2026 with exactly this idea in mind.
We are setting out to prove that amazing science can be done in a non-traditional environment—one built around curiosity, collaboration, scientific freedom and a genuine commitment to the people doing the research. This is an experiment, and we want you to be part of it.

What makes us unique
We are building something unusual: a geoscience non-profit designed to conduct world-class fundamental and applied research using independently raised funds.
Deep Time Research brings together research, education and innovation in a model that is deliberately independent, agile and focused on impact. We believe that excellent science does not have to depend entirely on traditional institutional structures.
Our interests span the full spectrum of geoscience—from understanding how continents form and evolve, to discovering new mineral and energy resources, to developing new ideas, technologies and approaches and transferring them into the applied world.
At the same time, we are investing in the people who will shape the future of the field. We support postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students, creating opportunities for young scientists to develop their ideas, gain research experience and contribute to ambitious projects.
We also believe that geoscience should not be confined to laboratories and academic journals. We promote Earth science education and public engagement, helping bring the fascinating history and complexity of our planet to a wider audience.
Research. Education. Innovation. Opportunity.
We are bringing them together under one roof—and building a new model for how geoscience can be done.
